A round or a row?

We went to see a chorus concert at the local school tonight, Emma was singing. She did really well, seemed to be enjoying herself and knew all the words, and for the most part, I enjoyed the singing. However I have a question. Why is it, in these concerts, they insist on singing at least one, and usually more, songs that are sung as a "round". Wikipedia defines a round as follows: "A round is a musical composition in which two or more voices sing exactly the same melody (and may continue repeating it indefinitely), but with each voice beginning at different times so that different parts of the melody coincide in the different voices, but nevertheless fit harmoniously together". Not sure I got the "harmoniously together" bit tonight. The round I heard was (as us British would say) a bloody racket.
